Upon completion of your scheduled exam, scores are automatically forwarded to Prineville Police Department if you have selected this in NTN. Candidates who attain a passing score on the entry level exam will be placed on Prineville Police Department's eligibility list. Prineville Police Department will cross reference applications received with candidates on the list and will invite qualified candidates to participate in further stages of the selection process.National Testing Network is a service provided to conduct entry level testing in a standardized, professional environment. National Testing Network does not replace the Prineville Police Department's responsibility and decision making in the testing process. All candidate results are provided to Prineville Police Department where the final decisions are made.
NATURE OF WORK This position performs law enforcement and crime prevention duties including patrol and investigations. Enforces federal, state, and local laws, regulations and ordinances. Assists in EMS and provides public assistance; performs other duties as necessary for the proper functioning of the department. Must be willing to work 8, 10 or 12-hour shift assignments. Officers must be willing to work day shift, swing shift or graveyard shift assignments including weekends and holidays.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED/REVIEW OF WORK: Work is normally performed under the general supervision of the Patrol Sergeant or assigned shift commander who assigns and reviews work for conformance to laws and departmental rules and regulations. Ultimately under the command of the Chief of Police and Lieutenant.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The duties listed are intended only as Illustrative examples of the various types of work that may be performed by individuals in this classification. - Patrol streets, alleys, roads, business and residential areas of the City, enforcing parking, traffic and criminal laws and ordinances; checks suspicious persons and vehicles.
- Responds to wide variety of service and investigative calls, including but not limited to crimes, violations, juvenile complaints, family disputes, and barking dogs, and takes appropriate action.
- Investigates accidents, deaths, and criminal complaints; makes arrests and issues citations and warnings when appropriate; handles prisoners as required by law.
- Prepares full and comprehensive reports on activities performed.
- Assists the public by answering inquiries regarding directions, laws and ordinances; aids stranded motorists; checks road conditions, street signs and street lights; gives other assistance to the public as needed.
- Testifies in court.
- Serves warrants.
- Provides miscellaneous field services; assists other officers, including communications and corrections, in their duties.
- Makes security checks on business and public buildings.
- Interviews witnesses and suspects, takes photographs, collects evidence, processes latent prints, rolls fingerprints, and conducts follow-up investigations.
- Directs traffic and generally provides traffic control at scenes of fires, parades, and other special events, malfunctioning traffic signals, motor vehicle collision scenes, etc.
- Makes recommendations to superior officers concerning departmental policies, procedures, and activities.
- Maintains working liaison with other law enforcement agency personnel.
- Performs animal and ordinance officer duties as needed or assigned.
- Maintains assigned patrol vehicle and workstation in clean, orderly and working conditions.
- Jointly responsible with all other employees for the overall cleanliness and order of the police facility.
- Demonstrates consistent, regular and reliable work attendance of duties in various shifts and assignments.
- Performs related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate. Prior law enforcement and/or college degree in related field preferred; OR any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Organize and plan own work schedule to meet workflow demands in a timely and efficient manner.
- Knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, ordinances, and resolutions as they apply to the Police and Emergency Dispatch departments.
- Reads, analyzes, and interprets reports, and other related documents.
- Knowledge of modern principles, practices, and methods of law enforcement.
- Ability to respond to inquiries from the general public and members of the business community in a professional, well-informed manner.
- Knowledge and use of business English, grammar, spelling, punctuation and composition.
- Works well with others in a spirit of cooperation and teamwork.
- Ability to deal with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and good judgment.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with other City employees, the City Council, the media and the general public.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSING: - Possess a valid Oregon driver's license with an acceptable driving record. (Or the ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire.)
- Requires certification through Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training within one year.
- Requires successful completion of the Field Training Program.
- Must be at least 21 years of age and be a US citizen or be able to obtain citizenship within 18 months after date of appointment.
- Applicants must pass a medical exam and psychological evaluation prior to appointment.
- Applicants must pass a physical agility test.
- Vision may not be less than 20/20 in one or both eyes or corrected to not less than 20/20 in both eyes.
- Must pass required background checks including but not limited to work history, criminal history, and driving history.
SUPERVISION/LEAD WORK EXERCISED This is a non-supervisory position. Lead work/coordination of the work of others is not a typical function assigned to this position. Incumbents in this position may provide training, and orientation to newly assigned personnel. A Patrol Officer may provide direct supervision of any cadet or reserve officer, or citizen rider currently assigned to or riding with the officer.
Entry level police officers start at the first step on the salary schedule in the collective bargaining agreement.
BOTH THE LATERAL AND ENTRY LEVEL RECRUITMENTS WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL THE POSITION IS FILLED. The City of Prineville offers a generous benefit package for employees and eligible dependents.

Salary and benefits are subject to negotiation and, therefore, may change as a result of negotiations.

INSURANCE Medical Dental/Vision Life/AD&D Long-term Disability Supplemental (Employee Paid) Coverage for employee and family, City currently paying 100% of the premium.

Employees are provided with $50,000 of life insurance. This life insurance benefit is fully paid by the City.
This benefit pays a percentage of your salary after a 90-day waiting period. The premium is fully paid for by the City.
There are optional insurance plans in which an employee can enroll in at his/her expense. (Coverage may not be guaranteed and may require underwriting approval.)
Short term Disability - available for employee.
Additional term life insurance - available for the employee, spouse, and eligible dependents.
Accident, Cancer, Hospital, Intensive Care, and Specific Event Insurance- available for employee, spouse, and eligible dependents.
RETIREMENT PERS / OPSRP The City participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS)/ (OPSRP). Employees are eligible to become members of the OPSRP after six full month of employment. The City currently pays the six percent employee contribution.
Deferred Compensation Employees are eligible to participate with employee contributions in a 457 pre-tax or Roth deferred compensation plan with Oregon Savings Growth Plan (OSGP), MassMutual, Nationwide Retirement Solutions, Valic, and Forester's Financial.

Bereavement Leave In the event of death in an employee's immediate family, City employees are allowed up to 4 days off (with pay).
OTHER BENEFITS Education Reimbursement Employees are eligible for education reimbursement per approval of their Supervisor and according to Human Resources Education Incentive Policy.

Flex Spending Plan (125) Employees are eligible for participation in a deferral plan for child care and unreimbursed health-related expenses.
Longevity Incentive Employees are eligible for longevity pay after 10 years of employment at 3.5% of base pay.
